Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon caster sugar
- 3 cups (450g) self-raising flour
- 80g butter, cubed
- 1 cup to 1 1/4 cups warm milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Place a baking tray in the oven.
- Sift flour into a large bowl. Add butter; use fingertips to rub in butter.
- Make a well in centre of flour mixture; add 1 cup milk and the vanilla. Mix with a knife until mixture forms a soft, sticky dough, adding more milk if needed.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently!! Roll out until 2cm thick. Cut scones with cutter.
- Place scones on warmed baking tray lined with baking paper; brush tops with milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and well risen.
